LFD Coronado Rerelease

LFD Coronado – Arriving in 10 days!Band

The LFD Coronado by La Flor line has been the highest rated of any La Flor Dominicana. Connoisseurs appreciate the very full-bodied, robustand spicy character of the Coronado. The blend of the cigar has not changed since its debut in 2006. In that year Cigar Aficionado named it the #2 Cigar of the Year with a 93 rating (a Cuban was #1, making the Coronado the #1 non-Cuban) noting its caramel and leather notes.

La Flor Dominicana is reintroducing this classic in 2015 with new packaging and labeling. Though the old band was really cool, La Flor Domicana thought brand identity was an issue with no real way to know clearly that it was an LFD product. The new LFD Coronado comes in 18-count boxes and with a new band clearly displaying LFD instead of the retro Coronado by La Flor label that was a gold and purple band with an embossed crown.

The blend, however, has remained unchanged from the Coronado by La Flor classic. The Coronado still has a very oily sun-grown wrapper from the Jalapa valley of Nicaragua, a Dominican Corojo binder and filler blend that include Sumatra-seed, and Piloto Cubano from La Flor Dominicana’s own farms in La Canela, Dominican Republic.

The cigar, because of its heavy oils and its strong flavor profile ages very well. In fact, the 2006 classic reappeared in the October 2015 issue of Cigar Aficionado in the Connoisseurs Corner vintage tastings , with a 97 rating! From Cigar Aficionado editor Gordon Mott: “Just short of perfect, this Dominican cigar, a powerhouse in its youth, has mellowed with age, and it’s now a perfect balance between earthy full flavor, and the robust sweetness of cocoa. The sweet and peppery finish goes on forever .”

We shall have to wait to see if Coronado lanceros reappear, but for the time being we have five formats. This cigar is an unbeatable intersection of value, flavor, and quality. One of our customer favorites at Anthony’s Cigar Emporium.

Montecristo 80th Anniversary

Montecristo 80th Anniversary – arriving any day!

cpg_55d610efe7e62WEBThe legendary Montecristo marca celebrates its 80th anniversary this year and Altadis U.S.A is marking the occasion with a worthy cigar: the Montecristo 80th Anniversary. It’s a 6” x 54 Belicoso in the iconic No. 2 format and box pressed. The Montecristo 80th Anniversary cigar is composed of some rare Dominican tobaccos and blended and crafted by Altadis’ most-skilled Grupo de Maestros cigar makers at the Tabacalera de García factory in La Romana, Dominican Republic.  Anthony’s Cigar Emporium placed its order for the Montecristo 80th Anniversary cigar at the 2015 IPCPR Convention in July, and after a suspenseful wait, we are finally going to get it any day now.

The Montecristo 80th Anniversary features a dark, rich and oily Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper that burns well with a full-bodied and spicy taste. The binder is a Dominican Olor, from a  2010 vintage crop grown by Villa Gonzalez Crop that is notable for its slightly natural sweetness and floral tones. The filler is a blend of a new and exclusive Dominican Pilotico leaf combined with Nicaraguan Criollo ’98, a dark, heavy bodied tobacco noted for its strength and robust taste, as well as Nicaraguan Corojo ’99, a wonderfully aromatic tobacco well known for a great burn and uniform white ash.  All put together, this is an ultra-premium full bodied cigar and a testament to the Grupo de Maestros.

In 1935, Alonso Menendez and José Manuel Pepe García started BOXWEBa brand in Cuba inspired by the Alexandre Dumas novel, The Count of Montecristo, appropriately titled Montecristo.  Following the Cuban revolution, Menendez and Garcia fled to the Canary Islands and then to Dominican Republic. While the brand still exists in Cuba, Menendez and García would eventually re-establish the brand in the Dominican Republic exclusively for the American market.  When the duo settled in the Dominican Republic, they met another Cuban refugee named Pepe Mendez who would source the premium tobaccos used in the Montecristo.

When Pepe Mendez had fled Cuba, he took some seeds with him where they were set aside. Recently the Mendez family grew some tobacco in the Navarrese region of the Dominican Republic from those seeds. That tobacco is known as Dominican Pilotico. This tobacco is quite scarce because it is difficult to grow due to the fact that it is very susceptible to mold resulting in much lower yields. What makes the Montecristo 80th anniversary special is that it uses Dominican Pilotico in the filler of the blend.  Naturally producing fewer and smaller leaves, the Pilotico leaf is rich, strong, and wonderfully complex.cigarWEB

The Montecristo 80th Anniversary come in black, stained-oak boxes of 12 emblazoned with the Montecristo fleur-de-lis. Only 3,000 of these 12-count boxes  have been produced, making the Montecristo 80th Anniversary a coveted collectible limited edition cigar.

Camacho American Barrel Aged

Camacho American Barrel Aged – Master Built Series

Capture3Anthony’s Cigar Emporium has received the brand new Camacho American Barrel Aged.  From Camacho about the Camacho American Barrel Aged : “Born from the inexhaustible spirit that has inspired Camacho from day one. Brace yourself for a monumental smoke that welds the essence of true frontier mettle to Camacho’s impenetrable Cuban roots… A cigar that shatters all expectations, pushes every limit and paves the way for a life lived out loud. American Barrel-Aged is truly the embodiment of uncompromising craftsmanship.”

The Camacho American Barrel Aged is the first line released under a new Camacho series called the Master Built Series, blended to be rich, full-flavored and full bodied. The Camacho American Barrel Aged, making its debut in 2015, is a regular production cigar that incorporates six year old Corojo leaf in a mostly American tobacco blend. The Corojo leaf is said to amplify the complexity and intensity of the blend and contributes to oaky flavors and sweet bourbon aromas due to the fact that Camacho uses a special aging technique by locking thesix-year-old Corojo leaf in charred Kentucky Bourbon oak barrels. The mostly American filler blend contains Pennsylvania Maduro, and Connecticut Broadleaf. USA Connecticut Broadleaf is used for both the wrapper and binder. The Camacho American Barrel Aged is an oily, full-flavored, full-bodied masterpiece. In another first, this cigar will be a Dominican made cigar for Camacho, making the Camacho American Barrel Aged the first time a Camacho cigar has been rolled outside of Honduras, yet the cigar is bold and unmistakably Camacho.

The three simple formats of the Camacho American Barrel Aged offered:  Robusto (5″ x 50, also offered in tubos), Toro (6″ x 50), and Gordo (6″ x 60).  Each are packaged in 20 count boxes.

Camacho-American-Barrel-Aged-Cigars

“American Barrel-Aged is something we have been working on for some time and we are very excited to finally share it with aficionados now in the US and across global markets in the near future. This project marks the first time a Camacho core line has been made outside of Honduras and we are extremely proud of what our master builders in the Dominican Republic have brought to life. Barrel aging is a very tedious and hands-on process. We are aging around 2,000 lbs of Corojo filler tobacco and rotating the barrels one leaf at a time every few weeks. Each batch takes a full five months to complete and requires constant attention to ensure the proper journey for this special tobacco,” said Dylan Austin, Director of Marketing for Davidoff of Geneva USA.

AVO Syncro Nicaragua – IN STOCK

Avo Sycro Nicaragua

Anthony’s Cigar Emporium has received all sizes of the new box-pressed Avo Syncro Nicaragua line.

Avo-Syncro-Box-featureWEB

Swiss conglomerate Oettinger Davidoff AG continues to make investments in cultivating tobaccos outside of the Dominican Republic.   Its Avo brand, the brainchild of composer Avo Uvezian and Master Blender Henke Kelner, has been renowned for decades as a consistent, well-constructed balanced Dominican filled cigars.  After the 2015 Limited Edition Avo Covers incorporated Nicaraguan leaves in its filler blends, Avo is introducing a new regular production line called Avo Syncro Nicaragua that contains Nicaraguan tobacco in its filler.  Like other Avo Cigars, the Avo Syncro Nicaragua has a balanced profile, however it is medium to full in body.  The Avo Syncro Nicaragua incorporates diverse flavors in its filler blend from tobaccos sourced from the volcanic Ometepe island, Nicaragua, Peru (Olancho), and the Dominican Republic (Piloto, San Vicente Mejorado and hybrid Olor/Piloto).  The binder is Dominican and the wrapper is a gorgeous, oily, and very dark, practically colorado, Ecuadorian Connecticut Seed.  The blend is described as delivering “a cigar with Nicaraguan fire, Dominican flair, and a world of stories.”  The name “Syncro” is a play on the theme of “synchronization” in music.  In this case, it refers to the synchronization of the Dominican and Nicaraguan cigar experience.

From Avo Cigars: “Inspired by the cosmopolitan lifestyle of Avo Uvezian, our Master Blender has ventured to the untamed heart of Central America. Capturing sweet and spicy flavors from the rich, volcanic soil of Nicaragua and blending them with the soft, creamy notes of the finest Dominican leaves. Resulting in a smooth and balanced box-pressed cigar with unexpected depth and complexity. As the first in our Syncro Series, AVO Nicaragua is truly a one-of-a-kind experience. One that begins on the remote island of Ometepe; a unique landscape where a rare and exceptional tobacco is grown. Known for its wild character and peppery notes, we carefully fuse this tobacco with earthy flavors from our estate in the Dominican Republic. The composition is an experience that is perfectly in sync with the moments worth sharing.”

Charles Awad, Senior Vice President Global Marketing & Innovation, spoke of the new Avo Syncro Nicaragua: “Experience the thrill of surprising notes from diverse cultures! AVO Syncro brings new and exciting blends to delight today’s aficionados. The fusion of tobaccos from various origins allows the creation of new and surprising taste experiences that will, in the AVO way, generate memorable sharing moments.”  Brand ambassador Avo Uvezian also commented, “I am delighted to share with you and aficionados around the globe this exciting new line of Avo Cigars. Avo Cigars are ready to give the performance of a lifetime. It’s about surprising and enjoyable experiences, the blending of various cultures – experiences perfectly in sync with the moments worth sharing.

The Avo Syncro Nicaragua is rolled at Davidoff’s Tabadom factory in Santiago, Dominican Republic.  It is offered in four sizes: Short Robusto (4 x 52), Robusto (5 x 50), Toro (6 x 54) and Special Toro (6 x 60).  Each cigar is box-pressed, another departure from Avo’s traditional parejos.

Jericho Hill Jack Brown – IN STOCK!

Jericho Hill Jack Brown

Anthony’s Cigar Emporium has received the new Jericho Hill Jack Brown.  The Jericho Hill Jack Brown is a line extension to Jericho Hill, thef ourth regular production cigar from Crowned Heads to involve music, the Jericho Hill line you might have noticed is a reference to Johnny Cash’s “Cocaine Blues”, a story about a man named Willy Lee. The entire line references the song in some way – the .44S being the caliber of the antagonist’s gun, LBV – “Long Black Veil”, and OSB “Orange Blossom Special” being tracks also present on the album. And now Crowned Heads introduces the Jericho Hill Jack Brown, “Jack Brown” being the alias of Willie Lee.  But don’t worry, you don’t have to be a Johnny Cash fan to appreciate just how good of a smoke this is. And the new Jericho Hill Jack Brown would be a perfect introduction to the line, being a very popular vitola: a box pressed Robusto Grande.

The Jericho Hill line features a beautiful black Mexican San Andrés wrapper around Nicaraguan binder and filler blends. Thick and rich flavors of molasses, chili pepper, light hints of citrus, and wet earthiness abound in this complex, full bodied cigar with aromas of roasted coffee beans and cocoa courtesy of the San Andrés wrapper leaf.

The Jericho Hill Jack Brown is a 5” x 56 Robusto Grande, box pressed like the rest of the line.  Jon Huber, founder of Crowned Heads, describes them a 5” blocks of chocolate with red pepper.  He has also described the entire line: “The smoke is a full-throttle experience that assaults the palate at break-neck speed, races around your mouth for 100 miles, and leaves your taste buds in a cloud of power, intensity, and excitement.”  The Jericho Hill is packaged in antiqued wooden boxes of 24, in keeping with Crowned Head’s western motifs.  The Jericho Hill Jack Brown is made at My Father Cigars, S.A. factory in Estelí, Nicaragua under the direction of José “Don Pepín” García and his son Jaime, like Crowned Head’s famous Las Calaveras limited release.
