Viva Republica Advanced Warfare – NOW AT ANTHONY’S

Viva Republica Advanced Warfare

Viva Republica Advanced Warfare is a brand new follow-up to the existing and very popular Viva Republica Guerrilla Warfare line.  The Viva Republica Advanced Warfare made its debut at the 2015 IPCPR Convention with two sizes that match the Guerilla Warfare, Petite Corona and Corona.  Both sizes are in stock at Anthony’s Cigar Emporium.  Viva Republica Advanced Warfare keeps the same colorado Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper as the Guerrilla Warfare but there is a total change in binder and filler leaves, making it a much different and more potent cigar. The Viva Republica Advanced Warfare has a Connecticut Broadleaf binder and a filler blend that includes leaves from Mexico, Nicaragua, and the United States. The Advanced Warfare line is more full bodied than the Guerilla Warfare. While many companies keep the same filler blends and change the wrapper, Jason Holly, owner of Viva Republica went a different direction.

The packaging is similar to Guerrilla Warfare as Advanced Warfare will also be in 50 count boxes. The banding is similar, but it uses a bright yellow and black scheme instead of a green and black scheme.

The Viva Republica Advanced Warfare is also made at Guillermo León’s La Aurora factory in Santiago, the oldest in the Dominican Republic dating back to the 1930’s. His grandfather, Eduardo León Jimenes, founded the factory and initially produced cigars for the Dominican market. Guillermo Leon has welcomed Jason Holly introducing innovations in the cigar industry and using leaf grown outside the Dominican Republic.  All Viva Republica cigars are unique and at a reasonable price point.

Partagas 150 Signature Series 1995 Release NOW AT ANTHONY’S

Partagas 150 Signature Series 1995 Release

IMG_8988_WEB

Original Released Partagas 150 were packaged in cedar cabinet boxes bearing the signature of the roller.

In 1995, General Cigar Co. released the Partagas 150 Signature Series to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Partagás brand in Cuba.  The Partagas 150 Signature Series cigar used a very special 1977 vintage 18 year old Cameroon wrapper at the time, which means it is now 38 years old!  The Partagas 150 Signature Series got its reputation from this very rare and expensive Cameroon wrapper leaf that was aged in a Spanish tobacco warehouse. The cigar had a Mexican binder and a vintage filler blend of Mexican and Dominican tobaccos.  It instantly became acquired by collectors and was hailed in 1995 as the first cigar that would compete with the most famous and legendary Cubans.

Anthony’s Cigar Emporium has obtained original Partagas 150 Signature Series that were released in 1995 from two private collectors that have maintained them in perfect condition. There have been some extremely limited re-releases by General Cigar Co. over the years since from a small supply that have remained in its factory.  There was a 150 count humidor that contained 150 Partagas 150 Signature Series formats A, B, C released in 2013 at $9,999 and unnumbered 10 ct. Don Ramon boxes released in 2014 at $1,500.  Unlike the re-releases, the original 1995 releases were packaged in exquisite cedar cabinet boxes with the handwritten name and signature of the roller. The rare Don Ramon 10 count boxes were packaged in individual coffins bearing the signature of Don Ramón Cifuentes in numbered wooden box that resembles an old book.  Only a total of 1 million Partagas 150 Signature Series cigars were rolled in 1995, with the Don Ramon being the rarest with only 10,000 produced and packaged in 10 count boxes numbered from 1 to 1,000.  Just a limited amount of boxes of Partagas 150 Signature Series still exist and they will never be produced again.  These cigars are mostly in the hands of private collectors and not traditionally available for purchase.  For the collector or cigar aficionado who seeks the honor of possessing these rare treasures, Anthony’s Cigar Emporium is offering the Partagas 150 Signature Series from the original 1995 release in boxes and singles for sale at competitive prices given the scarcity and collectability of these cigars.

About Don Ramón Cifuentes:

During the time of the Cuban Revolution, Don Ramón Cifuentes was the patriarch of the Cifuentes family that owned and produced the Partagás brand since 1900.  After the 1960 revolution, a newly formed government marketing agency, Cubatabaco, took over the Real Fabrica de Tabacos Partagás factory and the production of the brand.  Don Ramón Cifuentes was offered the job of leading the tobacco industry of all of Cuba given his reputation and expertise, but he refused and instead emigrated from the country penniless after owning one of the world’s most prestigious cigar brand.   In the early 1960s Ramón Cifuentes began working for General Cigar in the Connecticut River Valley.  The Dominican Partagás brand was not launched until the late 1970s because it took that long for U.S. courts to decide that Ramón Cifuentes was the rightful owner of the brand in the United States and the Dominican Republic.  Ramón Cifuentes licensed the Partagás name to General Cigar, which in 1978 obtained a trademark and relaunched the storied Partagás brand for the lucrative American market with Don Ramón Cifuentes at the helm.  Don Ramón Cifuentes died in 2000 at the age of 91.  For a great interview with this legendary cigarmaker, check out this Cigar Aficionado article here.

There were eight formats produced in the original 1995 release.

Don Ramon: 7 x 52 Churchill
AA: 7 1/2 x 49 Double Corona
A: 6 3/4 x 43 Lonsdale
B: 6 1/4 x 47 Corona
C: 5 1/2 x 49 Robusto Extra
D: 5 x 38 Petit Corona
Robusto: 4 1/2 x 49
Figuardo: 6 x 50

Anthony’s Cigar Emporium has complete boxes of the Partagas 150 Signature Series Don Ramon, Robusto, and AA available. Singles are available in the Don Ramon, Robusto, A, B,  and AA.   These cigars are extremely fragile.  Anthony’s has inspected them to ensure that the wrappers are intact.

Caldwell Blind Man’s Bluff

Caldwell Blind Man’s Bluff – Coming in approx. 2 weeks

Anthony’s Cigar Emporium has been told by Caldwell Cigar Co. that the Caldwell Blind Man’s Bluff should ship within a couple of weeks.  Delays in box manufacturing have pushed back its release which was slated for last week. Blind Man’s Bluff is the latest regular production line from boutique maker Caldwell Cigar Co. features a Ecuadoran Habano wrapper, a Criollo binder from Honduras, and fillers composed of San Vicente viso from the Dominican Republic and Criollo ligero and what Caldwell calls Generoso ligero sol from Honduras.  This is the first offering from Caldwell made outside of the Dominican Republic and comprises tobaccos from Central America.  The production of all Caldwell cigars to date have been by former Davidoff master blender William Ventura and its lines will continue to be produced under the supervision of William Ventura.

The Caldwell Blind Man’s Bluff is made at Davidoff’s Agroindustrias Laepe S.A. in Danli,Honduras, the same factory where Camachos are produced. “We have been missing part of the market by not having a Central American offering,” Caldwell told Cigar Aficionado. “Laepe produces the best cigars in Honduras. They are a great partner for us and we are humbled to be working with them. We have had a great relationship with the generous people at Laepe since we began and they have really helped us out by opening their doors to us.” The Caldwell Blind Man’s Bluff cigar is medium bodied with notes of cedar, bread, and sweet spice.  The Caldwell Blind Man’s Bluff is available in three formats: Robusto (5″ x 50), Toro (6″ x 52), Magnum (6″ x 60).

Asylum Nyctophilia TAA Exclusive – IN STOCK

Asylum Nyctophilia TAA Exclusive

Anthony’s Cigar Emporium, a Tobacconists’ Association of America (TAA) Member, has the Asylum Nyctophilia TAA Exclusive in stock.  TAA Exclusives refer to cigars that are available only to retailers that are TAA Members.  The Asylum Nyctophilia has been in the works for sometime by Asylum Cigars founders Tom Lazuka and Christian Eiroa.  It was announced that it would be intoduced at the 2014 IPCPR Convention as a new Asylum regular production line that used a Mexican San Andrés maduro wrapper in four formats but Christian Eiroa announced earlier this year that the Nyctophilia would be released as a TAA Exclusive line.  There hasn’t been any indication that the Asylum Nyctophilia TAA Exclusive will be a one-time or continuing TAA release.

The San Andrés maduro wrapper is a slight depature from Asylum Cigars’ premium lines that are full bodied Nicaraguan puros that are famous for formats in large ring gauges.  The  Asylum Nyctophilia TAA Exclusive still uses 100% Nicaraguan leaves for its filler and binder and is very full bodied but the San Andrés maduro wrapper add notes of dry cocoa and coffee bean, and a slightly sweeter tobacco taste.  There are also still two super large ring gauge vitolas.  The Asylum Nyctophilia TAA Exclusive is available in three formats: 5″ x 50 Robusto, 6 x 60 Gordo and a 7″ x 70 Super Gordo.  The Asylum Nyctophilia TAA Exclusive 5 x 50s and 6 x 60s are packaged in 25-count boxes and the 7 x 70s come in 24-count boxes.  Each cigar has a band on its foot with the TAA logo.

L’Atelier La Mission

L’Atelier La Mission

The new L’Atelier La Mission is heading to Anthony’s Cigar Emporium.  Our shipment from L’Atelier Imports went out yesterday.    L’Atelier is debuting a new regular production line called La Mission, in keeping with French motifs in labeling and packaging. La Mission is inspired by the famous Bordeaux winery, Château La Mission Haut-Brion. Pete Johnson has committed to adding a size to the line for every vintage that this coveted Bordeaux received a 100 point rating by legendary wine taster Robert Parker. So far, there have been seven: 1955, 1959, 1982, 1989, 2000, 2005, and 2009. The L’Atelier La Mission is being launched with three sizes, with the same dimensions as the original L’Atelier labeled LAT line: 1959 (4 3/4″ x 52 Short Robusto), 1989 (5 5/8″ x 54 Robusto Extra), and 2009 (6 1/2″ x 56 Gran Toro).

As for the blend, the cigar is draped in a maduro Mexican San Andrés wrapper, with 100% Nicaraguan binder and filler that incorporate the same Sancti Spiritus leaf that is a hybrid of Criollo and Pelo de Oro that L’Atelier has used in all of its L’Atelier label cigars and prized for its spicy sweet characteristics. The L’Atelier La Mission has been blended by the García family and manufactured at its My Father Cigars S.A. factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. Each La Mission will be a box-pressed cigar with a pig-tail cap. The cigar is very robust and full bodied yet complex and balanced, just like the Château La Mission Haut-Brion.  The resulting profile for the L’Atelier La Mission is a rich and rewarding smoke with a hint of complex sweetness and cocoa from the San Andrés wrapper that combine well with the strong, earthy and spicy taste of fine Nicaraguan tobaccos.

Crowned Heads La Imperiosa – Arriving any day!

Crowned Heads La Imperiosa

Crowned Heads La Imperiosa will be arriving at Anthony’s Cigar Emporium any day now.  Jon Huber, co-owner of Crowned Heads posted online yesterday that they have already shipped out.  Crowned Heads expected to ship just after the July IPCPR Convention, but due to very limited supplies, retailers are only receiving very small initial shipments this month, with more coming as the Crowned Heads La Imperiosa become more available.

The Crowned Heads La Imperiosa will be a small batch regular production release with a blend based on the 2014 Las Calaveras Edición Limitada.   The Crowned Heads La Imperiosa is the same blend as the Las Calaveras 2014, Crowned Heads’ most sought after release to date and the most popular limited edition cigar at Anthony’s Cigar Emporium.

The Crowned Heads La Imperiosa contains an Ecuadorian Habano Oscuro wrapper and all-Nicaraguan filler and binder, like the 2014 Las Calaveras Edición Limitada.  The 2015 Las Calaveras Edición Limitada has a Ecuadorian Habano Rosado wrapper.  Unfortunately for fans of special Don Pepín García blends, the 2014 release sold out very fast, especially the LC550 robusto.  If you are still craving the  2014 Las Calaveras Edición Limitada cigar, or didn’t get a chance to try one, the Crowned Heads La Imperiosa is the cigar for you.  Like the Crowned Heads Las Calaveras limited edition release, and the Jericho Hill regular production release, the Crowned Heads La Imperiosa is blended and made by the García family and rolled at its My Father Cigars S.A. factory in Estelí, Nicaragua.

The Crowned Heads La Imperiosa will launch with four different vitolas, all packaged in boxes of 24 (like the Las Calaveras): Corona Gorda (5 3/4″ x 46), Magicos (4 1/2″ x 52), Double Robusto (6 3/8″ x 50) and Dukes (5 1/2″ x 54).   La Imperiosa, which translates loosely from Spanish to “authoritative,” is an old Cuban brand from the 1900s. Crowned Heads filed for a trademark on the brand last year.

for-WEB2

Crowned Heads describes the La Imperiosa:

“Opens big with a burst of red pepper, before easing off the throttle and settling onto the palate with dense and multi-layered notes of dark fruit, earth, and charred meat. The flavor is at once dense and approachable, with a massively-brooding muscular structure. This is a tour de force of Nicaragua’s finest tobaccos at their hedonistic best.”

Like the Las Calaveras, the packaging designs have symbolic meanings.  The images and symbols which appear on the Crowned La Imperiosa are explained by Huber as such:

  • Color — “The primary color, Maroon, symbolizes victory and/or perseverance in battle.  It certainly has been a ‘battle’ to grow our company over the last 4 years; we began shipping to 66 stores in November 2011.  Today, that number of retail partners has grown to close to 700 stores.”

  • Swords — “The sword is a symbol of power and freedom, which alludes to our freedom from the ‘corporate machine,’ and our choice to ‘Carve Our Own Path.’”

  • Snake — “The serpent is a symbol of defiance, and additionally, also represents renewal.  This also alludes to our decision to remain in Nashville, and create ‘Crowned Heads.’”

  • Dragon — “The dragon is the guardian of treasures, and is also the bravest of all the creatures.”

  • Crown — “The crown is a symbol of victory, sovereignty and empire; it also ties back to our namesake, “Crowned Heads.”

El Centurion H-2K-CT – Coming Next Week!

El Centurion H-2K-CT

Anthony’s Cigar Emporium expects to receive the new El Centurion H-2K-CT this week or next.  The new El Centurion H-2K-CT is a line extension of My Father’s El Centurion brand.  Two sizes were added, the 5 1/2″ x 48 Corona and the 6″ x 52 Toro.  Both formats are box pressed.  These cigars are packaged exactly like the El Centurion 20 count presentation, but they feature a secondary bad displaying “H-2K-CT.”  The H-2K-CT refers to the wrapper of the El Centurion H-2K-CT Corona and Toro.  It is a Cuban-seed Habano 2000 hybrid leaf that is sun grown in the Connecticut River Valley, USA.  The Connecticut River Valley, USA is famous for its golden, silky shade grown wrappers and the toothy oscuro Connecticut Broadleaf.   Growing Cuban seed tobacco in the Connecticut River Valley is new, and My Father and José “Don Pepín” García have the reputation and expertise in developing and using Cuban seed wrappers like those that adorn many of their fine cigars made for My Father and Tatuaje, just like the El Centurion.

The El Centurion H-2K-CT is different from the Connecticut shade My Father CT cigars.  Jaime García said to Cigar Aficionado:

“This new creation was a team effort between my father and meIt is a lot different than My Father Connecticut. And different from the regular El Centurion. This new version is a medium-bodied cigar with full flavor, but it’s also box-pressed. We were looking for a blend that is accessible to every palate but different from all our other brands.”

Joya de Nicaragua Cuatro Cinco Reserva Especial

Joya de Nicaragua Cuatro Cinco Reserva Especial

In 2013, during its 45th anniversary, Joya de Nicaragua released Cuatro Cinco Edición Limitada, a beautiful soft box pressed cigar containing 100% Nicaraguan fillers and five year old ligeros aged inside vintage oak barrels that Joya de Nicaragua had saved for its 45th anniversary. The Cuatro Cinco Edición Limitada sold out in just a few weeks. The ecstatic response from around the globe and demand for more encouraged Joya de Nicaragua to create a cigar as special as Cuatro Cinco Edición Limitada, but this time as a small batch regular production line, called the Joya de Nicaragua Cuatro Cinco Reserva Especial.  The Joya de Nicaragua Cuatro Cinco Reserva Especial are also soft box pressed and they come packaged in boxes of 10.
cuatro-cinco-reserva-especial-1
The Joya de Nicaragua Cuatro Cinco Reserva Especial is a carefully modified recipe based on the Edición Limitada.  The Joya de Nicaragua Cuatro Cinco Reserva Especial blend still contains a unique and exceptional selection of five year old, rum barrel-aged Nicaraguan ligero leaf fillers and a beautiful silky shade-grown habano wrapper from the legendary Jalapa valley like the Edición Limitada of 2013.  Different from the 2013 Edición Limitada, the Reserva Especial incorporates a carefully selected Dominican volado leaf binder.    The old rum barrel aging process provides more balance, richness, and aroma depth to a very strong Nicaraguan ligero.  The barrels provide the perfect environment to smoothen out the flavor notes and showcase the sweetness of the leaf, according to the  Joya de Nicaragua Cuatro Cinco Reserva Especial blenders.
