Viaje C-4 2015 Now Avalable in 25ct Packs

Viaje C-4

Anthony’s Cigar Emporium is offering 25-count Packs for pre-order of the Viaje C-4 2015 Release.  Browse the Viaje C-4 on its website here.

Originally released in 2011, the Viaje C-4, a 5″ x 56 Robusto Grande, was packaged in 75 count flat top wooden boxes resembling explosives crates.  The Viaje C-4 is a very unique looking vitola.  The cigar is little longer and wider than a traditional 5″ x 50 Robusto,  triple capped on both ends, and box pressed, thus making it resemble a block of C-4 plastic explosives.  This marketing theme coincided with their usual June releases arriving just in time for the Fourth of July pyrotechnic celebrations.  The Viaje C-4 was a Nicaraguan puro rolled at the Raices Cubanas factory in Honduras with a very dark brown and well fermented Corojo wrapper.  The Viaje C-4 was a limited edition cigar that was released for three consecutive summers that stopped in 2014 when no Viaje C-4 cigars were made.

For Summer 2015, Viaje will re-release the C-4 but it is no longer a Nicaraguan puro and is now rolled by Abe Flores’ PDR factory in the Dominican Republic.  The Viaje C-4 2015 will sport a Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro wrapper. Like many Viaje small batch releases, Andre Farkas, owner of Viaje, is still pretty secretive about the re-release so there are many details remaining to be filled in, namely the filler blend, which has heretofore been called simply Nicaraguan.  Abe Flores has indicated that he will use a different filler blend, but there hasn’t been much detail released as yet.  Since all of the three previous Viaje C-4 releases were 5″ x 56, box pressed and triple capped on both ends, we expect that the 2015 will be the same format.  The 2015 release will also be packaged in 75 count wooden crates.

Viaje Summerfest 2015

Viaje Summerfest 2015

Anthony’s Cigar Emporium has the Viaje Summerfest 2015 IN STOCK.  They just arrived today!

The Viaje Summerfest 2015 Limited Production seasonal release is back this year after not being released last year.  The size is different from previous year’s releases, this time a 6″ x 52 Toro .

Viaje Cigar Co. has moved production of the Viaje Summerfest 2015 from the Raices Cubanas factory in Honduras to the TABSA factory (Tabacos Valle de Jalapa S.A.) in Nicaragua, which is owned by Eduardo Fernández, the principal in tobacco conglomerate Aganorsa S.A.   Viaje has indicated that the blend has changed slightly as well, but the Viaje Summerfest 2015 is still a Nicaraguan puro with a Café Rosado Nicaraguan Corojo 99 and 100% Nicaraguan fillers and binders.  The blend uses tobaccos from Esteli, Condega and Jalapa regions.

Another change: the Viaje Summerfest brushed foot is now going to be replaced by an 1″ unfinished foot with no wrapper.  Andre Farkas, owner of Viaje, has said that with the brushed foot the cigar would sometimes result in flowering during the burn, thus the exposed footer which is not brushed corrects this problem.

At Anthony’s Cigar Emporium we are excited to finally receive the Summerfest after not seeing them for a year and expect that the less strong,  medium to full. and more nuanced flavor profile of coffee, cinnamon spice and earth of the Viaje Summerfest will continue in the 2015 release.

RoMa Craft Neanderthal IN STOCK

RoMa Craft NeanderthaNeanderthall

The RoMa Craft Neanderthal is the latest release from RoMa Craft, and one of the most full bodied cigars available. Anthony’s Cigar Emporium has already received its shipment of the RoMa Craft Neanderthal and they are in stock now! Skip Martin, owner of RoMa Tobac has been dreaming of making this style of cigar since 2009 when he was working on CroMagnon. The conception for the RoMa Craft Neanderthal really came to fruition when he was introduced to a leaf from the Green River Valley of the US that was a regrowth from Pennsylvania Broadleaf called Pennsylvania Double Ligero. A regrowth leaf emerges when the leaves are cut off of a plant and a second set of leaves grows on the plant before it is removed from the ground. This leaf is added to filler blends from Nicaragua and Dominican Olor and really amps up the strength and nicotine levels. Pennsylvania Double Ligero has twice the nicotine of Ligero primings in Esteli, Nicaragua. Yet the RoMa Craft Neanderthal is smokable and balanced, albeit very strong.  The cigar will debut un a single format, a 5 x 52/56 figurado ( a tapered torpedo) with a flat cap and a rounded foot.

The RoMa Craft Neanderthal has a dark and shiny Mexican San Andres Maduro wrapper, usually a warning for novice smokers, that along with a US Connecticut Broadleaf binder give the cigar a strong and sweet tobacco taste on the back of the palate while spice and rich soil are the primary flavors. The tapered, pyramid shape intensifies the flavors and strength as the cigar is smoked and the rich tars of the Pennsylvania Double Ligero build up. Be warned, this cigar is not for amateurs.  Skip Martin has said:”It wasn’t until I found the Pennsylvania Double Ligero, a regrowth leaf with two to three times the nicotine levels of our other tobaccos, that I had the components I needed to produce what I was looking for.”

RoMa Craft was a joint venture between  Skip Martin and Michael Rosales that was first formed in 2011.  This is the newest boutique company to take the connoisseur world by storm.  It has its own production facilities in Esteli, Nicaragua called the Fabrica de Tabacos Nica Sueño.

God of Fire Serie Aniversario

God of Fire Serie Aniversario

aniversariocigarshop3

In 2012, Keith K. Park, owner of Prometheus, announced that Prometheus was planning a special Prometheus’ 20th anniversary release under its God of Fire brand, made by Fuente, called the God of Fire Serie Aniversario.  The release has seen many delays, particularly due to the fire in the Fuente factory in August 2012 that destroyed many vintage tobaccos.  The God of Fire Serie Aniversario is finally being released this July in homage to the 10th anniversary of the God of Fire brand.  The God of Fire Serie Aniversario has the premium Dominican filler and binder blend of the God of Fire with an Ecuadorian wrapper.  The blend itself resembles the God of Fire by Don Carlos which also has an Ecuadorian wrapper and blended by Carlos Fuente Sr. “Don Carlos.”

However the comparison stops there.  The wrappers are a deeper brown than the God of Fire by Don Carlos and all three formats are beautifully rolled oily perfectos with no visible veins.   The God of Fire Serie Aniversario is the richest God of Fire yet.  The God of Fire Serie Aniversario formats include the God of Fire Serie Aniversario 54 (7 1/2 x 54), God of Fire Serie Aniversario 56 (6 1/2 x 56) and the God of Fire Serie Aniversario 60 (5 1/2 x 60). The cigars will be packaged in special black God of Fire boxes of 10 that are serial numbered with a certificate of authenticity.  Actual release figures have not been disclosed as yet, but they will be very limited like all Prometheus’ God of Fire, Opus X Lost City, and Don Carlos Edicion de Aniversario.Capture

The ultra-premium Fuente made items distributed by Prometheus have proven to be true collectors items with rare Opus releases, and one of a kind blends such as the Don Carlos Edicion de Anniversario, the God of Fire by Don Carlos, God of Fire by Carlito and God of Fire Serie B.  Through its cigar and accessory sales has raised over $900,000 for the Fuente/Newman Cigar Family Charitable Foundation helping raise living standards by providing education and health services to communities in the Dominican Republic.Capture2

Padron Millennium 1964 Series Humidor & Cigars IN STOCK

Padron Millennium 1964 Series Humidor, 2000 Limited Edition

IMG_8867-web

Sequential numbering of cigars of the humidor in stock at Anthony’s Cigar Emporium.

In 1999, Padrón rolled 100,000 of a specially-blended version of its immensely popular 1964 Series to be released in 2000 to celebrate the entry of the third millenium. The Padrón Millennium 1964 Series was limited to 1,000 humidor cases of 100 cigars. The blend was similar to the 1964 Series, but was said to be quite a bit more bold in flavor and the tobacco used was already aged for five years before it was rolled into the cigars.   Anthony’s Cigar Emporium has one humidor in stock and a handful of singles available for purchase.  Visit our page of the Padron Millennium 1964 Series here.

From Padron’s Press Release in 1999:

“To celebrate the Millennium, the Padrón family created the limited edition ‘Millennium 1964 Series.’ Production was limited to 1,000 cases of 100 cigars each. The cigar, with dimensions of 52 x 6, is made with tobacco that has been aged for five years. All tobacco used for this single release was hand selected specifically for this limited production. Our goal was to blend a more full-bodied flavor while not compromising the balance that cigar connoisseurs have come to expect from our products.”

This Padron Millennium 1964 Series release was also the first time Padron individually numbered its cigars and each Padron Millennium 1964 Series humidor comes with five solid cedar trays that accommodate 20 cigars sequentially numbered on each tray. Each cigar as well as each humidor case is individually and sequentially numbered. To make this possible, new bands containing Jose O. Padrón’s signature were designed to accommodate the individual serial numbering of each cigar.

Plaque on humidor displaying the serial number of the case in stock at Anthony’s Cigar Emporium.

Each humidor also features two solid brass plaques on the exterior lid. The first, appearing on the center of the lid, contains the 1964 Anniversary Series logo. The second, located on the bottom right corner of the lid, contains the following information: Millennium 1964 Series Limited Edition Box No. 816 / 1,000 and Cigars No. 81501-81600. The serial numbers provided were of the Padron Millennium 1964 Series Humidor in stock (Maduro wrapper). Anthony’s Cigar Emporium also has a handful of single cigar aside from the humidor in stock for single purchases. This is a very rare 15 year old limited edition collector’s item that only comes around a few times each generation.

There were no re-releases or refills available for the Padron Millennium 1964 Series humidor.

Cubanacan HR Habano 2000 is coming to Anthony’s Cigar Emporium

Cubanacan HR Habano 2000

The cigar line, called simply HR for Hirochi Robaina’s initials, is rolled in Estelí, Nicaragua at the Cubanacan Cigars Factory S.A.  The Cubanacan Habano 2000 is the result of a project that started three years ago when Omar González Alemán, the master blender at Cubanacan who migrated to Costa Rica from Cuba in 2004, approached Hirochi Robaina with an idea. Alemán, who emigrated from Cuba in 2004,  wanted to create a new cigar brand to honor the Robaina’s family legacy in Cuban cigars, and the cigar that emerged is the full-bodied Cubanacan HR Habano 2000.  The cigars were released at the July ICPCR in 2014.

The patriarch of the family was legendary Cuban tobacco farmer Alejandro Robaina. Alejandro headed the tobacco plantation called Cuchillas de Barbacoa in Pinar del Río, which had been in the family since the mid-1800s, for decades until four years ago, when he died after a long battle with cancer. His grandson Hirochi, who had worked at Alejandro’s side for 14 years, began running the farm in Cuba. Omar Alemán worked in the Cuban tobacco industry since he was nine years old, spending many of those years overseeing the La Corona Cigar Factory, one of the largest factories in Havana where Cuban brands such as Romeo y Julieta, Hoyo de Monterrey, Cuaba, Por Larrañaga, Saint Luis Rey, and San Cristóbal de la Habana are rolled. During this time, Alemán developed a lasting friendship with the elder Alejandro Robaina.

In honor of his compadre Alejandro, Alemán collaborated with Cuban grandson Hirochi Robaina on a blend that uses filler from Nicaragua’s Jalapa Valley and Estelí regions, binder from Jalapa, and a distinctive maduro wrapper grown in Ecuador from Habano 2000 seed. Cubanacan says HR Habano 2000 is powerful. Hirochi Robaina said “I can’t smoke light cigars…I need it to be strong, and flavorful, but definitely strong.”

Very complex, full-flavored, and full-bodied Cubanacan HR Habano 2000 is a true conoisseur’s experience. Though there is no actual Cuban tobacco in the HR, Hirochi’s influence on the blend reflects the balanced and complex Cuban blending style.  This marks the first time that Hirochi Robaina has blended a cigar without using Cuban tobacco.
