LFD Salomon Especial Headed To Anthony’s

LFD Salomon Especial  – arriving any day!

La Flor Dominicana has confirmed that it shipped an order to Anthony’s Cigar Emporium that includes the Salomón Especial yesterday.  We expect it later this week or the beginning of next week.  The LFD Salomon Especial is the same big and beautiful 7″ x 64 Salomón vitola gradually tapered to a sharp point.  La Flor Dominicana introduced  the Salomón last year as a Limited Production format.  Formally known as the Ligero Salomón Maduro and the Ligero Salomón Natural; they use Nicaraguan Habano leaves in sun grown maduro and natural wrappers that cover a 100% Dominican filler and binder vintage blend from La Flor Dominicana’s own Estancia La Flor de Palma farms in La Canela, Dominican Republic.  La Flor Dominicana’s factory is in Tamboril, Dominican Republic.  The LFD Salomon Especial is packaged in gorgeous and dramatic 10-count trapezoidal boxes that are almost as beautiful as the cigars!

L’Atelier La Mission

L’Atelier La Mission

The new L’Atelier La Mission is heading to Anthony’s Cigar Emporium.  Our shipment from L’Atelier Imports went out yesterday.    L’Atelier is debuting a new regular production line called La Mission, in keeping with French motifs in labeling and packaging. La Mission is inspired by the famous Bordeaux winery, Château La Mission Haut-Brion. Pete Johnson has committed to adding a size to the line for every vintage that this coveted Bordeaux received a 100 point rating by legendary wine taster Robert Parker. So far, there have been seven: 1955, 1959, 1982, 1989, 2000, 2005, and 2009. The L’Atelier La Mission is being launched with three sizes, with the same dimensions as the original L’Atelier labeled LAT line: 1959 (4 3/4″ x 52 Short Robusto), 1989 (5 5/8″ x 54 Robusto Extra), and 2009 (6 1/2″ x 56 Gran Toro).

As for the blend, the cigar is draped in a maduro Mexican San Andrés wrapper, with 100% Nicaraguan binder and filler that incorporate the same Sancti Spiritus leaf that is a hybrid of Criollo and Pelo de Oro that L’Atelier has used in all of its L’Atelier label cigars and prized for its spicy sweet characteristics. The L’Atelier La Mission has been blended by the García family and manufactured at its My Father Cigars S.A. factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. Each La Mission will be a box-pressed cigar with a pig-tail cap. The cigar is very robust and full bodied yet complex and balanced, just like the Château La Mission Haut-Brion.  The resulting profile for the L’Atelier La Mission is a rich and rewarding smoke with a hint of complex sweetness and cocoa from the San Andrés wrapper that combine well with the strong, earthy and spicy taste of fine Nicaraguan tobaccos.

Crowned Heads La Imperiosa – Arriving any day!

Crowned Heads La Imperiosa

Crowned Heads La Imperiosa will be arriving at Anthony’s Cigar Emporium any day now.  Jon Huber, co-owner of Crowned Heads posted online yesterday that they have already shipped out.  Crowned Heads expected to ship just after the July IPCPR Convention, but due to very limited supplies, retailers are only receiving very small initial shipments this month, with more coming as the Crowned Heads La Imperiosa become more available.

The Crowned Heads La Imperiosa will be a small batch regular production release with a blend based on the 2014 Las Calaveras Edición Limitada.   The Crowned Heads La Imperiosa is the same blend as the Las Calaveras 2014, Crowned Heads’ most sought after release to date and the most popular limited edition cigar at Anthony’s Cigar Emporium.

The Crowned Heads La Imperiosa contains an Ecuadorian Habano Oscuro wrapper and all-Nicaraguan filler and binder, like the 2014 Las Calaveras Edición Limitada.  The 2015 Las Calaveras Edición Limitada has a Ecuadorian Habano Rosado wrapper.  Unfortunately for fans of special Don Pepín García blends, the 2014 release sold out very fast, especially the LC550 robusto.  If you are still craving the  2014 Las Calaveras Edición Limitada cigar, or didn’t get a chance to try one, the Crowned Heads La Imperiosa is the cigar for you.  Like the Crowned Heads Las Calaveras limited edition release, and the Jericho Hill regular production release, the Crowned Heads La Imperiosa is blended and made by the García family and rolled at its My Father Cigars S.A. factory in Estelí, Nicaragua.

Crowned Heads filed for a trademark on the brand last year.

for-WEB2

Crowned Heads describes the La Imperiosa:

“Opens big with a burst of red pepper, before easing off the throttle and settling onto the palate with dense and multi-layered notes of dark fruit, earth, and charred meat. The flavor is at once dense and approachable, with a massively-brooding muscular structure. This is a tour de force of Nicaragua’s finest tobaccos at their hedonistic best.”

Like the Las Calaveras, the packaging designs have symbolic meanings.  The images and symbols which appear on the Crowned La Imperiosa are explained by Huber as such:

  • Color — “The primary color, Maroon, symbolizes victory and/or perseverance in battle.  It certainly has been a ‘battle’ to grow our company over the last 4 years; we began shipping to 66 stores in November 2011.  Today, that number of retail partners has grown to close to 700 stores.”

  • Swords — “The sword is a symbol of power and freedom, which alludes to our freedom from the ‘corporate machine,’ and our choice to ‘Carve Our Own Path.’”

  • Snake — “The serpent is a symbol of defiance, and additionally, also represents renewal.  This also alludes to our decision to remain in Nashville, and create ‘Crowned Heads.’”

  • Dragon — “The dragon is the guardian of treasures, and is also the bravest of all the creatures.”

  • Crown — “The crown is a symbol of victory, sovereignty and empire; it also ties back to our namesake, “Crowned Heads.”

El Centurion H-2K-CT – Coming Next Week!

El Centurion H-2K-CT

Anthony’s Cigar Emporium expects to receive the new El Centurion H-2K-CT this week or next.  The new El Centurion H-2K-CT is a line extension of My Father’s El Centurion brand.  Two sizes were added, the 5 1/2″ x 48 Corona and the 6″ x 52 Toro.  Both formats are box pressed.  These cigars are packaged exactly like the El Centurion 20 count presentation, but they feature a secondary bad displaying “H-2K-CT.”  The H-2K-CT refers to the wrapper of the El Centurion H-2K-CT Corona and Toro.  It is a Cuban-seed Habano 2000 hybrid leaf that is sun grown in the Connecticut River Valley, USA.  The Connecticut River Valley, USA is famous for its golden, silky shade grown wrappers and the toothy oscuro Connecticut Broadleaf.   Growing Cuban seed tobacco in the Connecticut River Valley is new, and My Father and José “Don Pepín” García have the reputation and expertise in developing and using Cuban seed wrappers like those that adorn many of their fine cigars made for My Father and Tatuaje, just like the El Centurion.

The El Centurion H-2K-CT is different from the Connecticut shade My Father CT cigars.  Jaime García said to Cigar Aficionado:

“This new creation was a team effort between my father and meIt is a lot different than My Father Connecticut. And different from the regular El Centurion. This new version is a medium-bodied cigar with full flavor, but it’s also box-pressed. We were looking for a blend that is accessible to every palate but different from all our other brands.”

Joya de Nicaragua Cuatro Cinco Reserva Especial

Joya de Nicaragua Cuatro Cinco Reserva Especial

In 2013, during its 45th anniversary, Joya de Nicaragua released Cuatro Cinco Edición Limitada, a beautiful soft box pressed cigar containing 100% Nicaraguan fillers and five year old ligeros aged inside vintage oak barrels that Joya de Nicaragua had saved for its 45th anniversary. The Cuatro Cinco Edición Limitada sold out in just a few weeks. The ecstatic response from around the globe and demand for more encouraged Joya de Nicaragua to create a cigar as special as Cuatro Cinco Edición Limitada, but this time as a small batch regular production line, called the Joya de Nicaragua Cuatro Cinco Reserva Especial.  The Joya de Nicaragua Cuatro Cinco Reserva Especial are also soft box pressed and they come packaged in boxes of 10.
cuatro-cinco-reserva-especial-1
The Joya de Nicaragua Cuatro Cinco Reserva Especial is a carefully modified recipe based on the Edición Limitada.  The Joya de Nicaragua Cuatro Cinco Reserva Especial blend still contains a unique and exceptional selection of five year old, rum barrel-aged Nicaraguan ligero leaf fillers and a beautiful silky shade-grown habano wrapper from the legendary Jalapa valley like the Edición Limitada of 2013.  Different from the 2013 Edición Limitada, the Reserva Especial incorporates a carefully selected Dominican volado leaf binder.    The old rum barrel aging process provides more balance, richness, and aroma depth to a very strong Nicaraguan ligero.  The barrels provide the perfect environment to smoothen out the flavor notes and showcase the sweetness of the leaf, according to the  Joya de Nicaragua Cuatro Cinco Reserva Especial blenders.

Balmoral Añejo XO

Balmoral Añejo XO

Anthony’s Cigar Emporium now carries the Balmoral Añejo XO and Drew Estate, its exclusive United States distributor, will be shipping any day now.

The Balmoral Añejo XO is the latest Añejo line in the highly rated Balmoral portfolio.  The Añejo line uses aged Brazilian Arapiraca sun grown wrappers, olor binders from the Dominican Republic and fillers from Brazil, the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. The Balmoral Añejo XO are aged a minimum of six months after being rolled.

In 2014 Balmoral introduced their flagship cigar Añejo 18, which was an impressive success globally. The cigar was rated with 93 points by Cigar Journal, collected 5 cigar rings in the French magazine L’Amateur de Cigare (Cigarscope) and claimed a 12th position in the Cigar Journal top 25 of best cigars from the Dominican Republic. The rare 18-year old Arapiraca wrapper is very limited. To continue the success of Añejo, which in Spanish means “aged,” Balmoral now introduces its successor, the Balmoral Añejo XO.  The Balmoral Añejo XO is being released in three sizes, the Rothschild Massivo (5″ x 55), the Torpedo Mk52 (6 1/4″ x 52) and a Petit Robusto FT (4 3/8″ x 48). The FT stands for a distinctive flag tail cap.  All of the Balmoral Añejo XO come beautifully packaged in 20 count boxes.

AnejoXOTorpedoMk52 for webBoris Wintermans, 4th generation in the family business and CEO of Royal Agio Cigars which makes the Balmoral, stated that:

“In my quest for the perfect Añejo blend, I have had the privilege to be able to work with the finest and most exquisite tobaccos in the world. The most recent creation to come out of this journey was, of course, the Añejo 18, crowned with an 18 year old Brazilian ‘Sungrown’ Arapiraca wrapper, and made by hand at our own factory in San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic. After careful selection and tastings, I dare say that I have succeeded in finding a truly worthy successor: the Balmoral Añejo XO.”

Petite Robusto FT

Only this Balmoral Añejo XO can compete with the Añejo 18, according to Royal Agio Cigars. All tobaccos used have been thoroughly aged and create a sophisticated and complex aroma that is said to be beyond compare. Medium to full bodied, Royal Agio Cigars describes the Añejo XO’s taste as an explosion of aroma’s and complexity, with notes of cedar wood, spices, cacao and an underlying sweetness. Wintermans is convinced that the XO rivals the Añejo 18’s taste for complexity and subtlety and even ads a bit of extra sweetness and creaminess.

Nica Rustica Belly and Nica Rustica Short Robusto – Coming August!

Nica Rustica Belly and Nica Rustica Short Robusto

Anthony’s Cigar Emporium ordered Nica Rustica Belly and the Nica Rustica Short Robusto at this year’s IPCPR Convention.  The Drew Estate Nica Rustica brand is expanding to three different sizes and will have a 7 1/2″ x 54 Double Corona, the “Belly,” and a 4 1/2″ x 50 Short Robusto along with the 6″ x 52 Toro, the “El Brujito.”  Since Nica Rustica was launched by Drew Estate in 2013, it was a one-size brand with the famous covered foot “El Brujito” Toro size in a very black, gritty, rustic Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper covering Nicaraguan Estelí and Jalapa fillers and a Mexican San Andrés binder.  The Nica Rusticas are very dark, spicy, and robust…they smoke like they look, no subtleties.  The packaging is also very minimal and artisanal with the El Brujito, coming  in 25-ct black craft paper bundles.  The new sizes of the Nica Rustica, the Belly and the Short Robusto will be available in 25-ct black craft paper bundles similar to the current Nica Rustica “El Brujito.”

From Drew Estate:

This is a medium to full bodied smoke – it is blended to be rustic – un-polished, un-refined, for hard core tobacco lovers. Con Orgullo (with pride) is embedded deep within the people and the culture of Esteli, Nicaragua. Estelianos have embraced the image of “El Brujito” as a sign of pride and display it though-out their city in iron works, graffiti and sculpture. Carved into stone over 6,000 years ago by a flourishing Pre-Columbian civilization, “El Brujito” literally means “Witch Doctor” or to the locals “the Shaman”. Early Shamanic practices included the use of tobacco in ceremonial and medicinal rituals. Taste Profile: Dark, rustic, spicy, robust – very long finish. Cigar Style: A potent, robust and fulfilling smoke.

Liga Privada Undercrown Shade – shipping this Fall

Liga Privada Undercrown Shade

CaptureThere is a new Liga Privada Undercrown line being introduced at this year’s IPCPR Convention that is completely different than the Undercrown line, but made by the same rollers and blended by Willy Herrera.  Liga Privada Undercrown Shade, a Connecticut Shade wrapped cigar brand that joins the popular original Undercrown San Andrés wrapped line.  Undercrown Shade marks the first release blended by Drew Estate Master Blender Willy Herrera not to fall under the Herrera Estelí brand family. Herrera’s continued involvement in blending and brand development within Drew Estate is evident with this new blend, as Herrera worked extensively with the Undercrown roller team who blended the original Undercrown line to develop this new Connecticut blend.  “Since day one, Drew Estate has demonstrated that no premium cigar company better understands its team, and that the heart of the company is the production floor and factory,”  Willy said. “This is why I chose to work closely with the rollers responsible for the original Undercrown blend, and challenged them to create a Connecticut blend that would satisfy my palate. It was a long road, taking more than a year to develop. In the end, it was a very rewarding process, as finding a Connecticut blend to fit my palate wasn’t easy.”

Undercrown_Shade_BeautyShot_02The Liga Privada Undercrown Shade uses an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, Sumatran binder, as well as Dominican Criollo 98 and Nicaraguan Criollo and Corojo fillers.    The final blend is medium-bodied, lush & ultra-smooth, flavors that only a shade grown wrapper can deliver.  It’s a big change from the original Undercrown blend which used a Mexican San Andrés wrapper over a Connecticut River habano binder and fillers from Brazil and Nicaragua, but the final result is still Liga Privada quality.  The new Undercrown Shade will be available in 25-count boxes and most sizes will begin shipping in Fall 2015.

The new Undercrown Shade line will be presented in six formats, mirroring the San Andres-wrapped Undercrown core line that you’ve come to love. These sizes include a Belicoso (6” x 52), Corona Doble (7” x 54), Corona (5 5/8” x 46), Gordito (6” x 60), Gran Toro (6” x 52), and Robusto (5” x 54).

Padrón Dámaso – Coming to Anthony’s Cigar Emporium

Padrón Dámaso

Capture2Padrón Cigars, a mark that needs no introduction, winner of countless awards and the highest ratings from multiple publications, is introducing a new line of cigars for the first time in seven years!  Get ready for the Padrón Dámaso. The Padrón Dámaso is Padrón’s first new regular production line since the Family Reserve ultra-premium line back in 2008.  The Padrón Dámaso is expected to be priced between $10 and $14, but no official pricing has been released by Padrón.  Anthony’s Cigar Emporium will be at the official unveiling of Padrón Dámaso on the July 17th IPCPR Convention, and will be taking pre-orders next week.  Padrón Cigars expects to begin shipping the Padrón Dámaso in late August – early September.

The Padrón Dámaso is a round parejo, Connecticut Shade wrapped cigar, being a true departure of the sharply box pressed Nicaraguan puros that Padrón is famous for. “This is a totally new blend, completely different than anything we have done before,” Jorge Padrón, president of Padrón Cigars Inc., told Cigar Aficionado. “It’s Connecticut our way.”  The Connecticut seed wrapper is the first by Padrón. The company has worked with a specific “formula” in terms of all of its releases – namely releasing a Nicaraguan Habano natural and a Maduro wrapper with 100% Nicaraguan long fillers.  The Padrón Dámaso features a Connecticut seed wrapper from an undisclosed country over Nicaraguan binder and filler leaves.  The Connecticut seed wrapper is believed to be the first by Padrón. The company has worked with a “formula” in terms of its releases – namely releasing a Nicaraguan Habano natural and a Maduro wrapper. The Padrón Dámaso is rolled adjacent to Padrón’s main cigar factory in Estelí Nicaragua  “It’s made next to the existing factory, in an area where we used to store [tobacco] bales. We moved the bales and made that into the [Dámaso] factory,” said Jorge Padrón, President of Padrón and son of José Padrón. Jorge said his strategy was to make a milder cigar, but one that still had character. “It has to taste like tobacco, it has to have flavor,” he said. “Everything is still the same—we just didn’t want to mix the two. It’s important to separate.”  Jorge Padrón indicated the change required hiring some new workers, but the majority of the workers on the new project had worked at Padrón before. “Ninety percent of the people are coming from within,” he said.

Padrón brochures describe the cigar as “for those who seek the quality and consistency of Padrón in a milder taste profile.”  Jose Padrón, founder Padrón  Cigars,  described the inspiration of the Padrón Dámaso:  This Cigar was named for my grandfather Dámaso, who was the first Padrón to arrive in Cuba sometime in the late 1800’s from the Canary Islands.  In Cuba, we called people from the ‘Isleños.’  They were serious people who kept their word. Isleños tended to work in farming, and in this tradition my grandfather rented a small piece of land in Pinar del Rio and started growing tobacco.  Dámaso was an honest decent man and a hard worker.  He taught us to honor our word and be humble.  These are lessons that have stayed with me throughout my life.  I have tried to pass them on to my children.  It means a lot to me that we are making this cigar in honor of my grandfather.  He gave us life, a family and our start in this industry.  I hope he’s somewhere looking down and feeling proud of the company we have built.  I’d like to think Dámaso would be honored that we are continuing his legacy.  He would be proud that cigars bearing his name are sold around the world.

The Padróns have been working on Padrón Dámaso for nearly a year, but the concept of the cigar preceded its title. When it came time to think of a name, Jorge Padrón turned to his three children. He said: “One day I came home and I sat down with my kids, and I said ‘Can any of you come up with a name for a new cigar?” His son, Jorge Luis, suggested Dámaso after doing some research on the Internet. “My dad,” Jorge said, “loved it.”  Jorge Padrón said he had no short-term production targets for Padrón Dámaso.

Padrón Dámaso will come in four sizes to begin with, each of them named for the age of one of José Orlando Padrón’s grandchildren. No. 8 measures 5 ½” x 46 (Corona); No. 12 is 5” x 50 (Robusto); No. 15 is 6” x 52 (Toro) and No. 17 is 7” x 54 (Churchill).  Jorge said: “We’re going to go little by little. We’re not in a hurry. We want to make sure this product comes out and launches on the right foot. We’re focused on producing a quality product… We want to make sure we have products for every consumer—that’s the goal.”  The Padrón Dámaso will be packaged in 20 count boxes.  The cigar is described as mild to medium bodied.
